57 years after the events of the first Alien film, Ripley (again played by Sigourney Weaver) is discovered floating in space in the space pod she had used to escape the Nostromo. A deep space salvage team finds her and brings her to a space station in orbit around Earth. There she is informed that her daughter had passed away, that she had been lost in space for 57 years, and that LV-426 has been colonized.
Following her recovery, Ripley experiences many nightmares where the Alien she discovered on board the Nostromo torments her. Ripley is later approached by Carter J. Burke (played by Paul Reiser), a corporate representative for WeylandYutani, as well as Lieutenant Gorman (played by William Hope), who is a member of the United States Colonial Marines (USCM). They tell Ripley they have lost all contact with the colony on LV-426; and they would appreciate her cooperation and attendance as they venture to LV-426 to investigate the matter. At first she refuses to go along but, after a while, Ripley eventually decides to join them under the assumption that they’re going to LV-426 to wipe out the Alien infestation, not to bring samples back to Earth.
As the film progresses, we come to learn that the colony was overrun by Aliens and that all the colonists have been taken captive for impregnation or killed. There is one survivor, a girl named Newt. We also discover how the Aliens reproduce and we are introduced to the Alien Queen; a much larger version of the normal Alien. The Alien Queen has added features: an extended crest, two additional arms as well as the ability to produce hordes of Alien eggs.
The end of the film includes a final duel between Ripley and the Alien Queen, and only four survive the ordeal.
