Aliens Colonial Marines has now appeared on Steam. Even though they list the game for a Spring 2012 release date, Sega has confirmed that Aliens CM will not hit shelves until Fall 2012.

As expected IGN has posted the new Aliens Colonial Marines “Contact” teaser trailer on their site not a few minutes ago. The trailer begins with 3 squads of USCM Marines investigating what looks to be Hadley’s Hope, as Alien acid bruns through layers of the floor, the trailer ends with the marines engaging hordes of Aliens and a brilliant shot of the Alien Queen. The graphics look incredible, great job Gearbox! Have a look below:
Thanks to Sega, Gearbox Software and IGN for the new ALiens CM trailer!
GameInformer received an official statement from Sega today about the delay of the Aliens Colonial Marines title until this fall. Originally Aliens Colonial Marines was scheduled for a Spring 2012 release date, but unfortunately things don’t always go as planned, especially with game developing. Here’s the statement sent to GameInformer from Sega today:
“Aliens: Colonial Marines is a process of creativity and invention and those don’t necessarily follow the structure of an assembly line,” SEGA and Gearbox Software said in a statement sent to Game Informer.
“While setting clear goals, deadlines and predictions is helpful, they are often subjective. We don’t want to sacrifice the creative process just for the sake of following a blue print. We prefer to have the creative discovery shape that blue print because our goal is to make a great game, and we are prioritizing this goal over the previously targeted date.”
Not too disappointed about this news to be honest, I think I speak for many when I say I would rather wait an extra couple of months and have a masterpiece than wrap up development too early and end up with an un-polished product which only barely satisfies.
In related news our friends over at AvPGalaxy got the scoop on a new Aliens Colonial Marines trailer set to air tomorrow on IGN! Along with the update, a new screen cap was released for the game. (seen above)
According to this website, we can expect an Aliens Colonial Marines collector’s edition expansion pack for the game. Below are a list of what we can expect to be included with the collector’s edition.
Collector’s edition includes:

MyTopTrailers.com has posted up a new interview which they recently conducted with Aliens Colonial Marines Project lead Matthew Powers, where they address certain aspects of the game. A lot of what is said we already know, but some interesting facts were mentioned; mainly with regards to the ties to the Aliens film. Matt Powers mentions how in various levels you will see scenes from the movie, like the hole in the floor where Hicks and Ripley tried to rescue Newt after she fell down that shaft, and nother scene where you will be crawling in an air vent and you’ll see the exploded portion where Vasquez took her and Gorman’s life trying to stop the Aliens – you apparently also find Vasquez’s dog tags! On top of that they go on to discuss more features of the game, the co-op ability and competative multiplayer.
In related news, a new preview has been posted on NowGamer.com, which features a negative take on the game’s progress. A good read to hear both sides of how the fans feel Aliens Colonial Marines will play out. Have a read here.
Aliens Colonial Marines, first person shooter developed by Gearbox Software and Sega, ships out on all gaming platforms spring of 2012. Many have wondered if Colonial Marines will deliver as a true ‘Aliens’ game. With this latest interview with Randy Pitchford (CEO of Gearbox) and CVG, Aliens CM looks very promising.

For starters, Gearbox has hired on concept artist Syd Mead who originally worked on the Aliens film with James Cameron. Mead is apparently adding alot to Colonial Marines that he didn’t have time for in Aliens due to time restrictions and cuts.
“He designed the Colonial Marines’ spacecraft, the Sulaco,” says Pitchford, “Plus the Hadley’s Hope colony and so many other things from the Aliens film. He had a lot of content that was never used in the film, since they only built sets out of a few of the rooms.” [- CVG]
On top of an authentic concept artist, Gearbox also has hired writers Bradley Thompson and David Weddle who worked on the Battlestar Galactica remake. So, that being said, we can expect an incredible storyline to Aliens Colonial Marines, with the original ‘look’ and ’feel ‘ of the films.
Aliens Colonial Marines is turning out to be exactly what the franchise needs in terms of an authentic game.
GameScope has just posted up an interview which they held with SEGA’s Senior Producer and one of the members working on Aliens: Colonial Marines, Matthew Powers. In the interview, Matthew addresses what it was like to work with Gearbox and Fox, how they got in touch with Ridley Scott to make the Aliens “look right” and the different classes of Aliens you’ll face. He also touches on the campaign vs. multiplayer aspects to come with Aliens CM and anumber of other key aspects.
[GameScope]- What enemy types will we encounter in Aliens: Colonial Marines?
[Matthew Powers]- Certainly, you will meet the classics. In our video you could see the Queen, the Warriors, some Facehuggers. We will also be introducing some new Aliens, which you haven’t seen before. In the Aliens: Colonial Marines Demo the Charger is a big and a really cool opponent. I can’t give you more details about this now, but there will be many different enemies.
- How do opponents fight in groups?
- Aliens are very smart creatures. Sometimes they might hide down in a vent and try to distract you, while other ones will try to attack you from behind. It is very important to stay fully aware at all times.
- What are the dangers of encountering Aliens? Can a Marine be killed instantly in Aliens: Colonial Marines?
- I think this is important. Instant kills are not fun for players. We do incorporate strategic thinking. So most Aliens are effective, when they come up closer. What they do in Aliens: Colonial Marines is hiding in the shadows. When you walk down a hallway it is dark and shadowy, you will not see anything, but your Motion Sensor will be beeping.
You will look at it getting more and more louder starting to worry: ‘Where is it?!’. They can come off a ceiling space and use their advantages. They use their tale swipes, and if they get too close, it will be difficult to survive, so you will surely want to keep a distance from them.
- Are there many Quick Time Events (QTE) in the game?
- We do not have a lot of QTE-events in Aliens: Colonial Marines, but there are some such moments. If you remember in the video, when you are attacked by a Facehugger, there is a sort of minigame, where you have to do certain things to be able to defeat it. Quick Time Events remove a player from the action. We do not want to put a lot of those in, and will include just the right amount.
- Let’s speak about the in-game weapons in Aliens: Colonial Marines.
- Wow! First of all, there are classical choices like the M41 Pulse Rifle and M56 Smart Gun. You will also use Pistols, Shotguns, Rocket launchers, various Grenades and different types of ammunition. You can also connect attachments to turn your rifle into a shotgun or Grenade Launcher. There is much variety amongst the available weapons with everything you could expect a Marine to have…. A couple aspects I found interesting from this interview were when Matthew mentions how the Aliens will interact with you; how some might distract you while another sneaks up behind you. I also liked when Matthew describes the level designs for Aliens Colonial Marines and lack of quick-time-events. This game is looking to be very promising! Check back for more updates on AvPSpectrum!
